as the summer light fades into fall the lighting can really get dramatic.
take advantage of putting your subjects in front of great settings.................like the law firm group
in front of the burning bush.

or the spot light right around sunset high in the trees.  you can put your subject closer to the camera and use a wider angle lens to capture a bigger background area, or you can move the subject farther way and closer to the background.

experiment with different distances and focal lengths to create your own personal look.

This family session was done at a cottage on Isle LaMotte in the Champlain Islands, 
but some of my favorite locations for family portait sessions are also:  Stowe, VT 
and Jeffersonville, VT.

Commercial Professional Photography Group Portrait Lighting Tips

I will be shooting a group of a board of directors at noon.  When you are taking an executive group portrait you want clothing to be simple and to contrast with your background.  Shirts and pants should be not too contrasted to one another as well.  Find an outdoor background
early in the morning or late afternoon if you can, with sun to the side and then fill with
aperture preferred one stop less than indicated.  Shoot Raw format and upload into Lightroom to adjust vibrancy, Curves and such to optimize contrast and saturation.
Use the fill naturally, but avoid overcompensation to create that flash burnout that I really don't think looks great for skin tones, but you do see a lot on the web these days.

I have been so busy and neglected update to my blog. I've been doing lots of commercial and industrial shots of interesting things, on location lighting is my specialty there. Lots of business' need head shots for their websites and on location photography for their website and I've been up to a lot of that lately. Weddings are coming up and I have some nice new engagement portrait sessions to post to my gallery. That's it for now but I plan to keep you "posted" more often. Dave

Well here it is happy new year. Last year was an amazing year with lots of family portraits, weddings at beautiful venues and some really interesting commercial jobs and executive portraits for banks and law firms as the economy seemed to be picking up again.
